One we had finished the bulk of ASI's implementation, Mary invited us to quote on another custom CRM application. This one required the storage of very large graphic image files, so the document management capabilities of iExtensions were pushed to extremes. Eventually this company stored over 300 GB in 8 Notes document libraries, all linked through the main iExtensions application.
The success of our own 2 iExtensions implementations led iEnterprises to invite me to Lotusphere. This led to doing training on their behalf with several existing iEnterprises customers. And that, in turn, led them to invite me to do an increasing number of new and upgrade implementations. In January 2007 a major upgrade to iExtensions was released. This new version increased performance substantially, added a number of new features and modules, and significantly improved the Browser interface. I consider iExtensions to be one of the best Notes applications ever written, and IBM agrees, having awarded iEnterprises numerous awards over the past few years.
I continue to do a significant amount of work with iEnterprises, but with the new version, custom development is a last resort. One of the significant improvements is in the ability to regenerate Notes and Web forms based on database definitions. This has replaced at least 80% of work that formerly required design changes. The end result is significant time and cost savings for the client, but far less development work for me. So I have done relatively little Notes development work in the past year. Fortunately, I had found an alternative.
