LED lighting

I've been exploring the fascinating world of LED lighting for the past week. My sisters and I are working on some ideas for artistic furniture, combining our talents in woodworking, glass art, and technology. Thanks to http://www.oznium.com/, I have found a wide variety of LED lighting products I had no idea exist. I am most fascinated by the ribbon strips. They come in a variety of colours, including white and RGB. The brightness isn't adequate for overall lighting, but just the thing for integrating into other projects.

I have been playing with lighting fixtures for years. In University I built several lights using flourescent tubes, aluminium pipe, and colour filters. I still have 2 of them. The problem with them was the light produced was harsh and not controllable. I also have several designs for lit tables that I've never gotten around to building.

So my latest project is to build that long-delayed table. Jayne has been "suggesting" a replacement for our coffee table for quite a while, so I see this as the perfect opportunity. I ordered 10 feet of Oznium's white ribbon strips, I expect them to arrive some time this week. Anne and I are doing a proof-of-concept of my idea this week. If that works out as I hope, I'll get to the woodwork for the table and she'll start on the glasswork.

Since I placed the Oznium order, I have also been looking at other suppliers. I found http://superbrightleds.com, who have similar products, but also others that Oznium doesn't carry. In particular, they have an RGB controller that I'd like to try on another project. But first, a coffee table!
