Violin progress 3 and new light

Today I glued the C-bouts into the template form. This turned out to be fairly straightforward for a change. The most time-consuming part was finding the spacers that fit best. I did remember to apply celophane tape to keep the glue from adhering to the form itself. I only needed a few small wedges to force the ribs into the curves.

I was up quite late last night reworking the 2nd LED lamp. Last night when I picked it up to move it, the cylinder came loose from the base. By 1am I had completely reworked the cylinder. I shortened it by removing two sections of the LED strip that weren't working properly, I increased the diameter of the central support post, and throughly tested everything before regluing all the parts. Unfortunately my workshop was even more humid than last time, so when the lamp reached operating temperature today, the condensation was worse than before. Clearly I need to find a way of sealing the unit with a dry gas in place, or including a silica gel dessicant.

In any case, I am happier with the light now. The cylinder section is now about 45cm, which looks more balanced than it did before the surgery. I am also quite pleased with the RGB control. It was suggested that this could be used to teach basic colour theory. I hadn't thought of that as a possible market. Perhaps I should pursue that!
