I completed the table a couple of days ago. Since it was a few weeks between finishing the panels and doing the final assembly, the wood shifted. Just a bit, but enough that things didn't line up exactly. I used doweled joints, and they just aren't strong enough to hold the panels in place against the wishes of the wood. Fortunately one of the gaps is on the underside of the top, the other is at the end of one of the shelf boards. The visible one is only about 2mm, and should be completely invisible once there are books on the shelf.

Next time, I will do the final assembly as soon as possible after finishing the panels, or trim the panels to adjust for the inevitable movement. Overall though, the new table is a fairly decent match to the old one.
