I saw the Volt!

I saw a note on Facebook a couple of days ago that the Volt would be making a couple of appearances in the Toronto area. After I finished my meetings today, I drove to Vaughan Mills shopping centre, and there it was... looking far better than in any pictures I've seen.

It's fairly compact, about the size of a Honda Civic, and very nicely proportioned. The technical representatives weren't there yet, so I took lots of pictures, went away and did some work for a while, then came back. The tech people still hadn't made it due to rush-hour traffic, but I spoke to Steve, one of the support personnel. He graciously agreed to take a couple of pictures of me with the car. I even sat in it very briefly.

This particular car is a running prototype, and as such, not fully functional. It does have exactly the same appearance as the current IVER test cars, and the same as the production cars. I wasn't in it long enough to get a feel for ergonomics and comfort, although nothing jumped out at me as being undesirable.

Steve told me that they would not be available in Canada for 2 years - 2011. That suits me, as by then my current car will have about 250,000 km on it, and be ready for retirement. This brief exposure to the Volt makes me even more eager to be an early adopter!
