During this time (2000-2001), I was commissioned to web-enable an air-moving products database. I wrote it in Notes. The database included full technical specifications, photos, and a Java plugin to generate performance curves. I asked a friend to write the Java plug-in. We had a challenging time getting it to read Notes data and present the results properly, but we did it. That database was in use until after the company was sold.
A similar application written at this time was another on-line product catalog website, this time for small electronic modules. This site is still available at http://www.alutronmodules.com. We outsourced the introductory Flash movie. I still think it's pretty classy.
The Alutron site (and several others) were much more graphical than anything I had done on my own. I worked with Steve Lewis, who had been Creative Director at the same client where I did the GraphicSystem and PPS. We found we worked well together, so in conjunction with Bill MacDonald, the lead Java developer, Steve and I formed Ergus Software with the intention of developing and bringing to market a JSP-based Employee Relationship Management and Payroll system Bill was working on.
